Learn with us

We offer several short- and long-term courses each year, led by a faculty of practising artists.

  • Tailored to the needs and aspirations of individual students, these courses require a commitment to attend at least twice a week and will span from one to three years. They include mentoring sessions every three months to assess your progress and determine the path most appropriate to your goals. This approach is particularly suited to ambitious creatives with serious aspirations in the arts.

  • These courses, bookable in 6- or 12-week blocks, are suited to those who wish to experience high-quality tuition without a long-term commitment. The 6-week programme will guide you through the foundations of drawing or painting, rooted in the techniques of the great masters, ensuring you are well prepared for your own independent exploration.

  • Most popular for Life Drawing sessions, these drop-in classes are designed for confident draughtsmen and women interested in exploring figure drawing within the stunning setting of Victoria Hall, without a long-term commitment.

From Beginner to Master

Artist Development Course

This 1 to 3-year-long programme offers a rigorous and immersive education in the fundamentals of classical drawing and painting, rooted in observational practice and traditional techniques. Designed for artists seeking to deepen their visual language, refine technical skill, and develop a cohesive body of work, this course provides a structured yet personal path of artistic development.

With an emphasis on discipline, sensitivity, and sustained observation, each session builds toward mastery of tone, proportion, composition, and expression and, ultimately, the development of personal style.

Classes are taught in small groups, allowing for individualised guidance and mentoring. Over the course of three years, students will receive a number of formal appraisals with Saltaire Art School founder Nina Hunter, who offers tailored feedback and professional mentorship to support growth and direction.

This course is ideal for committed beginners as well as experienced artists wishing to revisit and deepen their practice within a classically focused framework.
