About Amanda

Amanda is a local Yorkshire Artist and Arts Educator with a passion for drawing on location and sharing her enthusiasm for recording everyday life through the medium of sketchbooks.  She has a wealth of teaching experience running courses for museums, community groups and arts organisations.  Before relocating back to Yorkshire, she spent 10 years working for the University of Oxford Museum’s service based in the Ashmolean Museum facilitating arts events, sketching tours and festivals. She worked alongside curators from the Ashmolean’s Western Art Print Room to run tours and talks exploring original works of art from the 15th century to the present-day including Raphael, Michelangelo, Degas and Ruskin, among others.

She has worked as a Reportage Artist (the art of visual storytelling) to document live music events, circus performers and engineers building Classic and Vintage cars.  A major highlight of her art career was an Artist’s residency documenting the fabrication of the Blue Whale Skeleton ‘Hope’ which now hangs in Hintze Hall in the Natural History Museum in London. She was commissioned by Research Casting International Canada Ltd and completed over 50 paintings behind the scenes during a 5-month period.  She then went on to sketch dinosaurs being built in RCI’s workshop in Canada.

‘I feel very lucky to live in beautiful Yorkshire where I enjoy painting on locationI am a regular visitor to Saltaire and I am fascinated by its rich history and heritage. I love to sketch from life, capturing the moment and energy of people and places.  I’ve honed my observational drawing skills through regular and consistent life drawing. I take my sketchbook everywhere as there is always an opportunity to draw even if it’s just for 10 minutes’
